Gas Barbecues with FREE next-working-day Delivery
Often the subject of much debate and discussion, a gas bbq does the job it is meant to with ease but with such a clean burning flame heat source it is easy to see why traditionalists shun gas bbqs in favour of charcoal burning grills. The advantages of gas barbecues however keep customers coming back and it is easy to see why. First of all, gas barbecues require very little "warm-up" time thanks to their instantly igniting burners which will have your cooking grates up to searing temperatures in no time.
Secondly, in terms of fuel costs, and factoring in lighting aids and starter fuels, gas is much more cost effective in the long term. However the initial (refundable) gas cylinder rental charge can be in the region of £25-ish. Lastly, gas bbqs are much more forgiving and easier to control because heat is dispersed evenly fully across the bbq and flare-ups are minimised. Charcoal bbqs tend to have hot and cold areas with some briquettes more "cooked than others."
Traditionalists argue that the reason they use a barbecue to cook is to acquire that unique smokey taste only afforded by smoke generated by burning coals. In recent years however, gas barbecue manufacturers have experimented with and developed a number of ways of trying to reproduce this sought-after taste including lava rock and more recently, flavourizer bars. Not only do these methods help to disperse heat and stop flare-ups but they also incinerate dripping fats and juices, instantly producing flavoured smoke which goes some way towards infusing the meats with that charred taste.
What gas do I need for my barbecue?
All UK barbecues run off propane gas cylinders (as of around 6 years ago, this has been referred to as patio gas) and all of our barbecues come complete with the correct regulator and hose (for this reason we do not supply gas barbecues outside of the UK).
Propane/patio gas is readily available in garden centres, petrol stations, DIY stores etc in several sizes (13kg costs around £28, 5kg costs around £22) and you will need to pay a (refundable) rental charge for your first bottle which is around £30 - when it is empty, simply return to a gas dealer for a full one!
