Lighting your Grill Manually

Posted by Ellie on 19th Mar 2023

You may have just gone to your grill to find that the ignition is not working. Please do not panic, you can manually light your grill! This blog will provide you with the steps to lighting your grill to ensure that it is completed easily and safely. Should you need to change the battery of your ignitor, please check our other blogs to find the step by step on how to do this.

Liquid Propane Grills:

1.Open your BBQ’s lid.

2.Ensure all burner control knobs are in the ‘OFF’ position. Check to make sure they are off by pushing the control knobs in and turning them clockwise until they stop.

3.Turn the gas tank on by turning the tank valve counter clockwise.

4.Put the match into your match stick hold and strike the match to light it. Then insert the match holder with the lit match down through the cooking grates, past the flavourizer bars and adjacent to the left burner. Ignite the burners individually going from left to right. Push the control knob in and turn to ‘ON’/’High’ to ignite the left burner. Check that the left burner is lit by looking through the cooking grates. If so, you should see a flame.

5.For Current Genesis and Summit models ignite the remaining burners the same way going from left to right.

6.For current Spirit Models, after burner 1 is lit, you can turn on burner 2 (and 3 if applicable).

7.If any burners fail to ignite within 5 seconds, stop, turn the burner control knob to ‘OFF’ and wait five minutes to allow the gas to clear before you try again.

Please Note: Do not lean over the open BBQ when lighting your grill.
