What is the difference between Gozney and OONI?

Gozney and Ooni are both popular brands that specialise in creating high-quality pizza ovens to use at home. Whilst they both aim to provide the best pizza ovens out there, there are some key differences between the two brands.

Product range

Gozney produce a range of pizza ovens, such as the dual fuel Dome, available in both bone and olive, that can be used with gas as well as wood and charcoal. The new Dome S1 is an all-gas iteration of the Dome, currently available in bone, that focuses on making it easier than ever to produce restaurant-quality pizza from the comfort of your own home.

Gozney also produce the portable Roccbox oven, available in a range of colours, including exclusive limited-edition releases. The Roccbox comes standard with a gas burner for use with a patio gas bottle, but a wood burner attachment can be purchased to allow the Roccbox to be used as a wood-fired pizza oven. Gozney also produce a wide range of accessories, including those to adapt the ovens for different styles of cooking such as the Dome door and steam injector for baking on the Dome, or the Neapolitan arch and flue extension for true Neapolitan style pizza.

Gozney's design prioritises insulation, meaning their ovens can reach incredibly high temperatures for authentic pizza-making, but also meaning that their ovens are touch-safe. The Dome has a ceramic bonded outer coating and the Roccbox's silicone jacket means that the body of both ovens are safe to touch, even at high temperatures, without the risk of burns present with metal ovens.

Ooni focus on making homemade pizza more accessible, making a range of single and multi-fuel pizza ovens more in line with the traditional design of portable and home ovens compared to Gozney's restaurant-inspired designs. Ooni produce accessories for their ovens such as pizza peels, covers, and serving implements.

Design and portability

Gozney's Dome and Dome S1 are not designed to be portable. They are large outdoor ovens, able to cook one large or two small pizzas at once, and can be used to cook many other meals and dishes beyond just pizza. Gozney produce a stand for the Dome oven, which puts it at the ideal height for cooking and has locking castor wheels making it easy to manoeuvre around a garden or deck.

The Roccbox is a portable oven, it has folding legs and the burner can be removed to allow the oven to be easily transported. The Roccbox cover includes a carry handle, to allow the barbecue to be easily transferred from a car boot or into a shed for storage.

All of Ooni's current pizza ovens are smaller and generally designed to be portable with carry covers available for most models. Several of Ooni's ovens have non-detachable chimneys, making them a little more unwieldy to transport than the Roccbox.

Price range

Gozney's Roccbox, which is closest to Ooni's pizza ovens in size and style, currently retails for £399 with the gas burner and comes with an anodised aluminium Roccbox pizza peel included, which retails for £65. Ooni's ovens range from £299 to £799 and currently do not come with a pizza peel included, a pizza peel can be purchased for an additional £40-60.

The dual fuel Gozney Dome retails for £1,799 and the Dome S1 retails for £1,299. Ooni do not currently produce a comparable-sized outdoor oven to the Dome.

Choosing the right oven for you

Whether a Gozney or an Ooni oven is the right choice for you will depend on the features that you are looking for in a pizza oven, which fuel sources you want to be able to use, the size of oven you would like and whether you would like it to be portable or a more permanent fixture in your garden.

Gozney's design and engineering focus more on achieving a restaurant-grade oven that is easy to use at home allowing for consistently high-quality results. This means that only the Dome comes with dual fuel capabilities, as the Roccbox wood burner must be purchased separately. However, their ovens are expertly manufactured, with stylish and professional-looking designs, and are easy to set up and use allowing both beginners and chefs to achieve amazing results with every use.
